I made this work for Justina Ampletzer after she said this phrase to me. The buttons were given to her as a gift.

Momentarily she studies art pedagogy, even after 8 years of art practice and two finished studies, she doesn’t get dispensation for the ‘fine art’ part of the studies. She is obliged to show another round of her art that will be examined after certain criteria. Her professor told her exactly how to make and present her “art” for the “exhibition”.

When Justina showed her work the professor, the latter talked about the “art-exhibition”. Justina just sighed and said, “Ach, das ist keine Kunst das ist eine Prüfung.” [Oh, that is no art, but just an examination.]

Alles im Eimer

Alles im Eimer is a german saying which means:

(Things) everything is ruined or broken down

(People) being exhausted

Parts of walls with graffiti and and other touched spots had been ground out of the wall with a grinder machine, all dust that came off the wall landed in one bucket.
